The Institute for Family Development (IFD) is a nonprofit dedicated to keeping children safe and families together. Founded in 1982 by the developers of the nationally recognized HOMEBUILDERS® model, IFD works directly with families across Washington State when they are facing serious challenges that put children at risk of removal from their homes.
Through a continuum of evidence‑based, in‑home family preservation services, IFD helps families strengthen safety, stability, and parent–child relationships during difficult periods so children can remain safely with the people who love them.
In addition to its direct work with families in Washington State, IFD supports agencies nationally and internationally by providing training, consultation, and site development services for HOMEBUILDERS® intensive family preservation and related models, extending its impact to countless children and families.

The Institute for Family Development is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
